A large fixed bed reactor for MRI <i>operando</i> experiments at elevated temperature and pressure

Recently, in situ studies using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) have shown the possibility to monitor local transport phenomena of gas-phase reactions inside opaque structures. Their application heterogeneously catalyzed remains challenging due inherent temperature and pressure constraints. In this work, an NMR-compatible reactor was designed, manufactured, tested, which can endure high temperatures increased pressure. tests, withstood pressures up 28 bars at room over 400 °C exhibited only little shielding. Its applicability demonstrated by performing CO2 methanation reaction, measured operando for first time a 3D spectroscopic imaging sequence. The design is described detail, allowing its easy adaptation different chemical other NMR measurements under conditions.
